Privacy Policy

Last updated: 12 June 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Traither (“Traither”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, and shares personal data when you use the Traither mobile application (the “App”). We process your personal data in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable national data protection law.

2. Overview of what we process

Traither is a fitness training-partner app. To provide it, we process:

  • Account data – your email address and password (passwords are stored only as a salted hash by our authentication provider).

  • Profile data – your name and/or username, date of birth, gender, city, a short bio, profile and gallery photos, and your sports and training preferences.

  • Location data – your approximate and precise GPS coordinates, used to show the map and to find nearby training partners.

  • Social and communication data – your communities, chats and messages, swipes, friend requests, and session join requests.

  • Push notification token – a device token used to deliver push notifications.

  • Device and technical data – device model, operating system, app version, language, and similar technical information.

  • Usage and analytics data – events about how you use the App.

  • Crash and diagnostic data – error reports and crash logs.

3. Purposes and legal bases

  • Creating and managing your account, authenticating you — Account data. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract).

  • Providing core features (profile, matching, communities, chats, sessions) — Profile and social/communication data. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract).

  • Verifying that you meet the minimum age of 18 and displaying your age to other users — Date of birth. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract) / Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in a safe community).

  • Showing the map and finding nearby training partners — Location data. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent via device location permission).

  • Sending push notifications you have enabled — Push token. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent) / Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest).

  • Product analytics to understand and improve the App (only if you opt in) — Usage/analytics and device data. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent).

  • Crash reporting and stability — Crash/diagnostic and device data. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest).

  • Security, abuse prevention, and legal compliance — Technical and account data. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest) / Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR (legal obligation).

Where we rely on consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), you can withdraw it at any time with effect for the future — for example by turning analytics off in the app's profile settings, revoking the location permission in your device settings, or disabling notifications.

4. Location data

The App requests permission to access your device location. We use it to display the map and to surface training partners near you, and we store your latest coordinates on your profile so the map works after a restart. You can deny or revoke this permission at any time in your device settings; some location-based features will then be limited or unavailable.

To convert between coordinates and city names (for example, when you search for or display a city), we use geocoding services provided by your device's operating system (Apple or Google) and by OpenStreetMap (Nominatim). The city text you enter and the relevant coordinates are transmitted to these services for this purpose.

5. Service providers and recipients

We use the following processors and service providers, who process data on our behalf or as part of delivering the App. Where data is transferred outside the EU/EEA, the transfer is safeguarded by appropriate measures such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

  • Supabase – Backend: authentication, database, file storage. Hosts your account, profile, location and social data in the EU (Frankfurt, Germany).

  • PostHog – Product analytics. EU hosting (eu.i.posthog.com).

  • Sentry – Crash and error reporting. EU/Germany hosting (de.sentry.io).

  • Resend – Delivery of transactional emails (e.g. sign-up verification and password-reset codes). Processes your email address; may involve transfer to the USA.

  • Expo (Expo Application Services) – Push notification delivery and app updates. Push tokens may be processed in the USA.

  • Apple (MapKit / Apple Maps) – Map display on iOS devices. On iOS the map is rendered by Apple; may involve transfer to the USA.

  • Google (Google Maps Platform) – Map display on Android devices. On Android the map is rendered by Google; may involve transfer to the USA.

  • OpenStreetMap Foundation (Nominatim) – City search and geocoding. Receives the city text you enter and relevant coordinates.

  • Apple / Google – App distribution (App Store / Google Play) and operating-system geocoding. Subject to their own privacy policies.

We do not sell your personal data.

6. Other users

Traither is a social app. Your profile (display name, photos, sports), and content you post in communities and chats, are visible to other users you interact with. Your approximate location may be used to show that you are a potential nearby training partner. When you create or join a training session, the meeting point you choose is shown as a location on a map to the other participants of that session and in related chats. Please only share information, and choose meeting points, you are comfortable making visible to others.

7. Data retention and deletion

We keep your personal data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your personal data is permanently and immediately erased from our systems (a hard delete), except where we are required to retain certain data to comply with legal obligations. Messages you posted in chats and communities may remain visible to other participants in anonymised form (attributed to a deleted user and no longer linked to your identity). Backups are overwritten in the ordinary course of our backup cycle. Analytics and crash data may be retained for a limited period in aggregated or pseudonymised form.

You can delete your account at any time from within the App.

8. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you (Art. 15);

  • Rectification of inaccurate data (Art. 16);

  • Erasure of your data (Art. 17);

  • Restriction of processing (Art. 18);

  • Data portability (Art. 20);

  • Object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21); and

  • Withdraw consent at any time (Art. 7(3)).

To exercise these rights, contact info@traither.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular in the EU member state of your residence or place of the alleged infringement.

9. International data transfers

Our core backend data (account, profile, location and social data) is stored within the EU in Frankfurt, Germany (Supabase), and our analytics and crash-reporting providers are EU-hosted. Some providers (in particular Expo for push notifications, Resend for emails, and Apple and Google for map display) may process limited data outside the EU/EEA, for example in the USA. In those cases we rely on appropriate safeguards under Chapter V GDPR, in particular the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, to ensure an adequate level of protection.

10. Age requirement

Traither is intended only for users aged 18 and over, because the App enables users to meet in person. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a person under 18 has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the App. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
